The perils of pursuing a Vice-Chancellor witch hunt

Catching up on my podcasts and wanted to check out your new ones. What an interesting place to start and what a complicated and thorny issue to discuss. I have not worked in the education sector so have an outsiders view. I find it fascinating that we try and look at pay parity across sectors when it is so difficult to compare apples with pears. They are different. Different marketplace, different drivers, stakeholders, conditions etc. I would suggest if a vice chancellor wants to be paid at the level of a FTSE CEO they should enter that market rather than thinking the market they are in should replicate those conditions. All employers have the challenge of finding good people and are trying to attract the best people. The competition is not won on pay or total comp alone. Add to that the continued debate on the value and set up of Remcos, exec pay and public trust and faith in companies, public and third sector organisations and for me it becomes a lot broader and more complicated. Shame the podcast was so short. I'd liked to have heard more from Sarah who obviously has a depth of knowledge on this topic way beyond my outsider/general public view on the sector.
