Upturn in interim manager recruitment 'likely to continue' (copy 1)

22 March 2012

The current trend towards rising recruitment of interim managers is likely to continue in the medium-to-long term, according to the Interim Management Association (IMA).

Jason Atkinson, chairman of the organisation, has stated his confidence that the expertise provided by interim managers is likely to mean they will remain in demand for some time.

Ipsos MORI analysis conducted on behalf of the IMA has revealed that overall firm enquiries for interim managers are at a five-year high, with the amount of business generated by the UK's top interim managers rising 93 per cent to £196 million.

Mr Atkinson noted that higher growth has been observed in terms of international assignments than domestic hires, meaning that around 80 per cent of the 20,000 interims in the UK have now worked overseas.

He said this is helping to improve their employability, explaining: "You know they are pretty versatile, they are pretty knowledgeable in how to operate in overseas markets and they are an important commodity going forward."
