UK businesses 'should learn HR lessons of Olympics'

21 August 2012

British businesses are being encouraged to draw lessons in human resources (HR) management from the success of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) will be highlighting the role good HR practices played in organising the Games at its annual conference and exhibition in Manchester this November.

Issues that will be underlined will include the way in which talent was nurtured for a single goal, the role of effective employee relations in driving high performance and the importance of diversity and inclusion.

Peter Cheese, chief executive officer of the CIPD, said it is vital that HR managers learn from others when seeking the best way of improving their own organisations.

He added: "In a market and economic environment of great uncertainty and change, organisations that stand still will not survive and thrive."

Earlier this month, a report from the Boston Consulting Group showed that companies that invest in better HR management standards generally outperform those that do not.
