Staff engagement 'vital for growth'

A retail expert has claimed employee engagement is "absolutely essential" to a company's growth in the current climate.

Ben Sillitoe, online editor of Retail Gazette, said competitive remuneration is just one way of ensuring that staff members remain committed to the cause and ready to adapt to change.

"It is also about generating the right working environment, providing inspiring offices and stores to work in and keeping staff informed about how their company is performing," he explained.

Mr Sillitoe also suggested companies should think about the way they "treat and reward staff" to keep levels of morale and engagement high.

According to recent research from the Society for Human Resource Management, organisations believe employee engagement is the most important HR challenge they will encounter over the next three to five years.

In the survey, 69 per cent of HR professionals cited it as the top issue, while 63 per cent of respondents opted for employee retention.
