North Tyneside Council 'to save money and jobs through outsourcing'

20 August 2012

North Tyneside Council has announced plans to boost value for money for taxpayers and employment in its area.

The local authority has revealed Balfour Beatty is the council's preferred partner for a range of administrative roles, including finance, procurement, revenues and benefits, ICT, customer services and human resources.

Meanwhile, property services, planning, engineering, consumer protection and environmental health services are all set to be outsourced to Capita Symonds.

North Tyneside Mayor Linda Arkley said: "The partnership with external providers is the best solution for the council, its taxpayers, its staff and the borough."

She added that the shift in policy will enable the authority to better invest in services and safeguard jobs, with the council aiming to deliver efficiency savings of £47 million over the next four years.

The news follows the recent publication of research from YouGov highlighting how local authorities across the UK aim to outsource 32 per cent of all services by the end of 2015.
