Managers 'must inspire confidence in their staff'
Managers have been reminded of the need to create confidence among their workers if the company is to achieve maximum productivity.
Jon Cowell, director at Edgecumbe Consulting Group and associate fellow at Oxford University's Said Business School, said strong leaders have to be able to create business goals, then inspire staff to work towards them.
This will require the initiation of a clear strategic structure and a sense among workers that they are being led on a well-defined journey, while a sense of empathy between managers and employees is also essential.
"Making people feel confident to try things out and feeling that it is OK sometimes to make mistakes if you are trying to move things forward - those things all matter," Mr Cowell explained.
This comes after a recent Edgecumbe Consulting Group report showed that many senior management teams in the UK are failing to inspire confidence at present.
Only 36 per cent of businesspeople surveyed said they believed their organisation was in safe hands.
