Interim managers 'offer unique benefits'

Companies considering interim management recruitment have been reminded that hiring temporary staff can offer a number of unique benefits.

Jason Atkinson, chair of the Interim Management Association, told Management Today that interim bosses differ from full-time appointments in important ways, such as the lack of emotional attachment they will have to the business.

He said this can be an advantage, as full-time staff can often struggle to deliver bad news or make essential changes, whereas interim business leaders will simply "tell it like it is".

Mr Atkinson also noted that the inclusive pay rate for interim bosses makes it easier to calculate salaries, without having to factor in national insurance, pensions or holidays.

"It's misleading to take an interim daily rate and multiply it to compare to a permanent annual salary. The two are not comparable," he added.

According to a recent statement from business expert Dr Graeme Codrington of TomorrowToday, demand for interim managers has risen in recent months, due to companies seeking to consolidate in the face of poor economic conditions.
