Interim management demand rises in Q3 2011

2 December 2011

Interim management recruitment in the UK has seen an increase during the third quarter of 2011 compared to the preceding three-month period.

New Interim Management Association (IMA) figures collated by Ipsos Mori have revealed a 22 per cent increase in new interim assignments during the July to September quarter of 2011, with the majority coming from the private sector.

According to the IMA, this rise has come despite the traditional slowness of hiring over the summer and the continuing weakness of the UK economy, with demand returning to pre-recession levels.

Jason Atkinson, chair of the IMA, said this shows that businesses are still placing high value on the flexibility and strategic value of hiring interim staff.

"Interim management is undoubtedly still perceived as a highly effective and tactical tool to be deployed come rain or shine," he added.

According to a September interview with Management Today, Mr Atkinson believes that careful planning and rigorously pre-determined objectives are necessary to ensure the success of interim hiring.
