Interim management appointments on the increase

21 September 2010

The number of interim management appointments in the UK increased during the first two quarters of the year.

According to research conducted by Ipsos MORI on behalf of the Interim Management Association (IMA), there was a nine per cent rise in the use of such temporary specialists in the opening six months of 2010.

For the first time since the third quarter of 2010, there was a greater number of interim management appointments in the private sector, with 52 per cent being assigned to varying roles.

Paul Botting, chairman of the IMA and managing director of Odgers Interim Commercial, said: "Our latest results demonstrate clearly how senior, experienced executives are being sought to lead and change organisations in business-critical operations in the public and private sector."

Earlier this month, Norfolk County Council cabinet member Bill Borrett told the Eastern Daily Press that interim managers are "cheaper and more cost effective" for public sector organisations to employ than full-time workers.
