Home Office highlights procurement savings success

24 July 2011

The Home Office has held an awards ceremony to highlight the role played by its procurement partners in delivering savings in the last year.

At the government department's annual supplier recognition conference awards, a total of 28 suppliers were shortlisted for accolades for the role they played in achieving savings of £140 million in the last business year.

Companies including Amey, Serco and Eamus Cork Solutions were presented with prizes based on their success in reducing operating costs and improving processing efficiency, reports Supply Management.

Home Office group commercial director Bill Crothers said this will play a crucial role in efforts to cut the budget deficit.

"We are always looking for ways to improve our procurement procedures and these suppliers have worked extremely hard to provide the public with value for money," he added.

Last week, the government announced the award of the first centrally managed procurement contract, which will replace 140 previous arrangements held by HM Revenue and Customs and deliver major savings.
