Flexible working 'can save cash'

8 October 2012

Businesses that utilise flexible working methods for their employees can save cash and access a more talented pool of prospective workers, according to an expert on the process.

Fintan O'Toole, chairman of Croydon Chamber of Commerce and the director of an HR department, noted that there are various different kinds of flexible working available to companies.

"It could be reduced hours, it could be part-time, it could be working from home, and it could be working at unusual hours," he explained.

However, what all these options have in common is that they can offer cost savings to the firm.

"To the employer it will mean access to a wider workforce without as much requirement for premises," suggested Mr O'Toole.

According to a new report from Citrix, the provider of a flagship virtual GoToMeeting service, the London Olympics encouraged many UK businesses to consider flexible working as an option.

Some 77 per cent of firms who did incorporate this system into their scheduling saw positive results, the company claimed.
