Employee management 'vital for CSR efforts'

6 February 2012

Companies that wish to successfully execute a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme should ensure they properly engage their workers through intelligent management.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has published new guidance highlighting the key role played by HR staff when seeking to change the values and direction of a corporate brand.

In order to make sure this shift in thinking takes root properly, managers much speak with their staff to ensure they understand the need for the change, as well as the implications on their day-to-day operations.

Catrin Ballinger, a research associate for the CIPD, explained: "HR's skill set and overarching view of the organisation means they are well placed to identify and challenge any business decisions that go against the organisation's values or will have a negative impact on its stakeholders."

This comes after another recent CIPD report suggested that employee engagement has become a much more important issue in the current financial climate, due to workers' growing concerns over job security.
