Businesses 'need flexible distribution networks'

27 November 2012

It is crucial UK businesses have flexible and agile procurement and distribution networks if they are to succeed over the coming years, an expert has suggested.

Peter Ward, cargo supply chain commercial manager at DP World London Gateway, argued that distribution networks are set for a major change.

"In the UK it may prove optimal for a major distribution centre in the south to complement another operating in the Midlands," he said

Cameron Mitchell, Jones Lang LaSalle's national director of industrial and logistics, added that it is important to avoid any kind of shortage in distribution over the next few years if Britain is to remain competitive.

With this in mind, he praised DP World London Gateway's commitment to offering different businesses a shared space from which to work.

The British Chambers of Commerce recently warned that delays to infrastructure projects could cause problems for economic growth in the UK.
