Better management 'essential for sustainability efforts'
Improving management standards within a company could play a vital role in ensuring the success of sustainability efforts.
Amy Wilson, head of business at charity group Global Action Plan, has noted that employee engagement is vital to any company wishing to reform their operating practices, making change management a vital concern.
She stated during a BusinessGreen webinar that although upper management is responsible for devising sustainability initiatives, it is the rank-and-file workers that will need to implement it on a day-to-day basis.
As such, passionate and enthusiastic management staff and environmental champions can make all the difference in communicating the ideas underpinning the project.
"That kind of face-to-face interaction is the most effective way to communicate people's values and perceptions about something," she said.
In July, Jayne Carrington of consultancy firm Right Management noted that human resources issues are a vital concern in any change management project, as workers need to be convinced of the value of change and have any fears allayed.
