Workplace diversity 'can boost productivity'

30 September 2012

A diverse workforce can ensure that everyone feels valued as an employee and aid staff willingness to speak up with ideas, meaning businesses can enjoy a performance boost as a result of installing more diversity policies, an expert has claimed.

Anni Townend, leadership consultant, coach and author of Assertiveness and Diversity, said that encouraging employees to engage with each other and with senior management is a vital task for any executives to undertake if they wish to improve the corporate atmosphere at their firm.

"One of the biggest challenges is if leaders and managers are not thinking about diversity as part of everything that they are leading for and are not encouraging of inclusivity," she added.

Ms Townend concluded that every firm should talk about their attitude towards inclusiveness and how it can be encouraged.

Deloitte recently revealed that 62 per cent of employees feel strong corporate leadership is crucial to their decision on whether or not to stay in their current role.
