Uptake of cloud technology 'creating change management challenges'

Change management is becoming an increasingly vital function for businesses due to the increasingly widespread use of cloud technology, according to a Google expert.

Thomas Davies, head of enterprise sales for the UK and Ireland at Google Apps, told DatacenterDynamics that workers are "demanding" that employers implement cloud services, based on their growing familiarity with the technology in the consumer sector.

Employees now expect to be able to regularly upgrade their mobile devices and gaining access to their material wherever they are, causing major changes to the way corporate leaders deal with IT matters.

Mr Davies said issues of this kind were once primarily the domain of chief information officers and centred mostly on cost of ownership matters.

"Now it is with all the board mangers including the chief executive officer and it's about change management, migration and security," he explained.

This comes after Google vice president for enterprise Amit Singh recently told Computerworld that switching to cloud services can in itself make change management processes simpler.
