UK firms returning to outsourcing

22 September 2009

European outsourcing activity has begun to increase in recent months, according to a report in an Indian national newspaper.

The Hindu has suggested that European firms, including those based in the UK, are re-emerging from the global economic downturn by contracting out their technology departments to India.

Identifying Fosters, Aviva and BP among many other companies, the publication suggested that organisations are securing partnerships with IT vendors in the Asian country as they look to reduce costs.

This growth in activity in the UK outsourcing market could lead to increased demand for executives specialising in interim management, who can offer firms experience in particular areas of business for short periods of time.

Mr Sabyasachi, partner at the advisory firm Tholons, told the Hindu that a clearer picture on the scale of outsourcing will emerge at the end of 2009.

He said: "There is an upsurge in demand for IT services with more focus towards growth-related spending."
