UK firms 'can benefit from on-demand IT resourcing'

2 December 2011

Businesses in the UK are finding a growing number of reasons to adopt an on-demand model for their IT resourcing.

This is according to IT optimisation consultancy Intergence, which states that the current economic downturn, coupled with the growing complexity of business computer systems, is making it necessary for firms to reconsider their operating models.

Peter Job, chief executive officer of the organisation, said it is proving difficult for companies to appoint permanent staff with the correct know-how to lead their IT projects, which are typically run for a fixed period of time.

As such, it is starting to make more sense for these functions to be delegated to an external provider, avoiding the kind of long-term commitment that many firms are nervous about at present.

"On-demand IT resourcing is the most cost-effective and efficient way in which to bring in the necessary skills and expertise," Mr Job said.

Recently, a report from Gartner highlighted the need for proper strategy when conducting an outsourcing initiative, as failing to do so will increase the likelihood of failure.
