UK firms 'afflicted by poor perception of management'

Productivity among UK businesses is currently being negatively impacted by a poor perception of upper management among workers, according to a report.

A survey conducted by global research firm ORC International has shown the UK has fallen to 17th place in its worldwide employee engagement rankings in 2011, with the poor economic conditions affecting satisfaction levels among staff.

Fewer than half of UK workers polled said they felt their company was well-managed or that there was a positive relationship between management and staff, contrasting with the rising engagement levels seen in the US and China.

Rory MacNeill, managing director of ORC International's employee research division, said it is vital for UK managers work to address this issue as soon as possible in order to reverse this trend.

"Employers in the UK must look at their approaches and put measures in place to improve perceptions of management," he stated.
