UK companies 'to increase use of temporary staff'
Businesses in the UK are likely to increase their recruitment of interim and temporary staff over the coming months, according to a report.
Data from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has found that 22 per cent of employers expect to increase their employment of temps during the next quarter, while 61 per cent will maintain the same level.
The proportion of firms planning to maintain or increase their temporary employment levels stands at 86 per cent over the next year, with this high rate coinciding with a fall in demand for permanent workers.
According to the REC, these findings are indicative of a trend towards companies wishing to maintain flexibility in uncertain economic conditions.
Roger Tweedy, the REC's director of research, explained: "Many employers are deferring any commitment to determining the future shape of their permanent workforces until a clearer picture emerges."
This comes after the REC and IMA published figures last week showing a rise in private sector interim management recruitment in the second quarter of 2011.
