UK businesses 'realising flexible benefits of interim managers'

The flexibility and unique expertise offered by interim managers are driving more and more UK companies to look into recruiting them, according to an expert.

Jason Atkinson, chairman of the Interim Management Association (IMA), said a lot of companies are starting to take the plunge with making their first interim appointments, which can be all it takes to demonstrate the advantages of doing so.

He stated that interim leaders can help steady a ship in times of uncertainty and offer benefits compared to simply hiring consultants, as interims will actually take charge of bringing about change, rather than only advising.

"It is more likely that when a firm ... need specialist skills to launch a new product or restructure a division, they will call upon somebody who has had a career doing just that," he explained.

This comes after an IMA/Ipsos MORI poll earlier this month showed that overall firm enquiries for interim managers have risen to a five-year high.
