Three-quarters of interim managers use service providers

9 July 2013

The majority of interim managers rely on interim service providers (ISPs) to find assignments, a new report has revealed.

Figures released by the Institute of Interim Management (IIM) show 72 per cent of professionals in the sector use ISPs as a means of finding work either all or some of the time.

More than a third of managers (37 per cent) exclusively use service providers, while just under half (44 per cent) of total assignments are found this way.

This reflects the fact that a decreasing number of positions are being advertised, with ISPs finding candidates to fill vacancies rather than individuals applying for the role themselves.

Ad van der Rest, IIM co-chairman, commented: "The use of service providers is an excellent and popular ‘route to market’ for many interim managers."

He added that individuals who maintain a relationship with their ISP tend to find the most assignments.

Odgers Interim was ranked as the second best interim service provider in the UK by the IIM report.
