Temporary staff could be offered permanent role
Many temporary staff could be offered permanent roles as the employment market in the UK looks set to improve over the coming months, a new report has suggested.
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) found that some 54 per cent of employers plan to increase their permanent workforce over the next three months, while 49 per cent expect a long-term rise in the number of staff they hire.
Furthermore, October saw almost one in four temporary staff landing a permanent role, the highest transfer rate since the survey began in July 2009.
REC director of research Roger Tweedy said: "Employers see transferring temps into permanent staff as a cost-effective, low risk way to grow their workforce. This has been an increasing trend during the recession."
He added that the gloom surrounding British business appears to be lifting as the recessionary climate clears.
