Technology sector 'needs more female talent'
Business leaders need to encourage more young female talent to enter the technology industry.
This is according to Neelie Kroes, European Commission (EC) vice-president, who discussed the issue at the recent opening of a technology festival - Campus Party Europe - in London, HR Magazine reports.
"The problem is too many girls don't believe a career in technology is sexy enough," Ms Kroes stated.
She added more needs to be done to show talented young females they can succeed in the industry.
The EC vice-president said the issue starts with education and making girls aware technology is a viable career path.
Also speaking at the event was communications minister Ed Vaizey. He called on the industry to embrace diversity, but warned a lack of female talent is an issue that affects all sectors.
"If you're not making your workforce female-friendly then you're cutting off a large pool of talent," he stated.
