Supply chain and IT 'must work together'

22 October 2012

IT and supply chain executives need to work in tandem to provide the best performance possible or risk putting their data security in jeopardy, according to a new report.

The study, authored by Omera Khan of the Logistics Institute at the University of Hull and Adrian Davis of the Information Security Forum (ISF), found that 70 per cent of ISF members are concerned about external supplier security arrangements.

However, only 15 per cent of respondents are approaching information security from a supply chain perspective, reports Supply Management.

The research said: "Companies are required to build new levels of collaboration among security, IT and supply chain managers."

It added that taking a separate approach runs the risk of information leaking to unexpected people, weakening a company's data security.

The Information Commissioner's Office recently pointed out that the private sector is performing far better than the public in terms of keeping essential or personal information safe.
