Recession 'has helped to drive demand for interim managers'

26 July 2011

Interim management recruitment has increased in recent months due to the nature of the business environment created by the global recession.

Dr Graeme Codrington, a futurist and speaker for business expertise network TomorrowToday, has observed that many companies are finding reasons to require versatile business leaders on a short-term basis.

This is often due to conditions created by the economic downturn, with distressed firms seeking managers that can return them quickly to growth, while others are hiring temporary staff to replace workers that have been laid off.

Dr Codrington also noted that business leaders with consulting-type mindsets who prefer short-term engagements are increasingly seeking to become free agents, meaning supply and demand for interim bosses are increasing concurrently.

"Companies realise that in an increasingly complex world in which they operate, they need specialist, experienced and versatile leaders," he explained.

According to a recent Institute for Interim Management report, staff in the sector have reported seeing rising demand for their services in the last year.
