REC: Interim managers can help UK economy

10 December 2009

Interim managers can help the UK economy recover from the recession, according to a leading employment organisation.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has suggested that executives experienced in interim management, alongside other freelance workers, are a "major asset" to UK corporations.

Specifically, the professional representative body suggested that the interim managers can offer skills and experience to organisations that are attempting to keep their costs low.

Kevin Green, chief executive of the REC, explained that businesses are beginning to embrace the "flexibility and autonomy" that these individuals can bring.

He said: "Freelancers - as well as other categories of flexible workers such as interim managers, contractors and temporary workers - will play a pivotal role in helping businesses seize new opportunities during the upturn."

Last month, Paul Botting, managing director of Odgers Berndtson's Commercial Sector Interim Practice, claimed that interim assignments will increase next year as companies undergo restructuring projects.
