Proper planning 'needed to ensure interim recruitment success'

6 September 2011

Companies seeking to get the most from an interim executive recruitment drive have been reminded of the need to plan the process properly.

Jason Atkinson, chair of the Interim Management Association, told Management Today that firms need to take care, assess their goals and find the right candidate when searching for an interim boss.

Businesses should therefore take care to assess their need for an interim manager and draw up a checklist for their ideal appointment, ensuring that good candidates can be identified and hired efficiently.

Mr Atkinson advised that companies should work to lay out a clear set of objectives, while making sure that both the interim manager and staff learn each other's roles and responsibilities as quickly as possible.

"Interim management opens up opportunities to engage highly experienced people on a part-time basis in a cost-effective way," he added.

In July 2011, research conducted by the Institute for Interim Management revealed that demand for interim staff is on the rise this year.
