Procurement professionals 'must understand social media'
Successful procurement professionals need to understand social media and modern forms of communication.
This is the opinion of Marcell Vollmer, chief procurement officer and senior vice-president of global procurement at IT organisation SAP.
Speaking to Supply Management, he said using social networking platforms such as Facebook will allow buyers to stay in touch with the latest trends in supply markets.
Mr Vollmer told the news provider that as well as understanding social media's significance to the procurement industry, professionals in the sector should work out how they can use it to their own advantage.
For example, it can be a useful tool for making new business contacts and to analyse how suppliers are using social media platforms to promote their products and services.
The SAP executive believes Facebook and LinkedIn are the most important sites to follow, but advised buyers that keeping an eye out for new developments is always beneficial.
