Procurement outsourcing 'will increase in 2012'

19 December 2011

Organisations in the UK and across the world are likely to increase their focus on procurement outsourcing in the coming year, according to new analysis.

Research firm Everest Group has published its 2012 Market Predictions, which suggested that the number of firms outsourcing their purchasing activities will rise by 20 per cent in 2012 and expand to new areas of the supply chain, reports Supply Management.

These include order fulfilment, inventory management and logistics, while chief financial officers are also set to take a more prominent role in negotiating contracts, resulting in more outsourcing deals that bundle in finance and accounting functions.

Other findings from the Everest report include an upturn in government sector procurement optimisation, with the UK singled out as a prime example of this trend in effect.

This follows the recent publication of new procurement regulations from the Cabinet Office, which include efficiency-oriented stipulations such as a new 120-day deadline for Whitehall purchasing projects.
