Poor leadership could dent profits, report claims

13 December 2012

Badly behaved managers could be costing their companies a huge amount of money each year, a new study has revealed.

A report recently published by ICM Research showed that poor leadership has the potential to dent profits by at least five per cent.

The survey of 1,000 British workers indicated that one in three managers do not behave well, while 24 per cent were classed as "merely adequate".

According to leaders at Inspiring Business Performance (IPB), a "talent time-bomb" is ticking in the UK because of the high number of underperforming company leaders.

"Organisations have a critical window of opportunity to measure and improve leader behaviour before the job market improves and organisations see a mass exodus of good people due to management dissatisfaction," commented IPB managing director John Telfer.

Communication forms a huge part of successful leadership and managing director of Ipso Consulting Naheed Mirza recently wrote for HR magazine that too many bosses are failing to use technological developments to stay in touch with their staff.
