People are the key to outsourcing success, says expert

3 July 2012

Proper management of staff and partners is essential for companies seeking to get the most out of outsourcing arrangements, according to a business expert.

Richard Bosworth, corporate strategist and founder of business leadership group What If? Forums, said: "Outsourcing is all about people and relationships - if these critical elements aren't good in the first instance, then don't expect outsourcing to solve them for you."

In order to avoid common pitfalls, Mr Bosworth said it is vital that managers assess the pros and cons of outsourcing various functions, ensuring that doing so will improve cycle times.

They should then conduct in-depth discussions with their outsourcing partners to deliver a complete information pack detailing the whole process that is to be outsourced, while ensuring to keep regular contact.

This guidance echoes the views of Charles Stoten of back office management support provider Rushbrook and Rathbone, who said earlier this week that firms which treat their outsourcing relationships as an equal partnership are more likely to thrive.
