Outsourcing processes abroad 'can offer benefits for decades'
Businesses that outsource key functions to offshore locations will find they can extract long-term benefits from the move, according to an expert.
David Ellis, partner at management consultancy OMC Partners, suggested that offshoring processes to nations such as China and India can offer "at least a 25 to 30-year benefit".
According to the expert, finance and accounting firms can expect to see returns in three years or less, which he described as "pretty good" for a long-term investment.
He added: "The thing about this is that you get payback in year four, year five, et cetera. It just keeps going on."
Last month, a report from procurement consultants Efficio observed that companies that do plan to outsource processes should ensure they have undertaken appropriate forward planning.
Strategies for both the commercial process and transition should be pieced together at the earliest possible juncture to avoid important issues being overlooked, the firm suggested.
