Outsourcing IT 'becoming standard, but services could improve'

19 July 2012

Outsourcing IT functions is increasingly becoming a standard practice in the UK, but businesses feel that they could be receiving a higher quality of service.

This is according to a new survey from KPMG, which reveals that 76 per cent of companies intend to continue outsourcing, due to the growing prevalence of cloud technology, apps and IT skills in British business.

However, almost half of those polled also stated they are indifferent about the prospect of recommending their current supplier to others, suggesting they may be willing to look elsewhere for the best possible offering.

Lee Ayling, partner in KPMG's shared services and outsourcing advisory practice, said: "Buyers are now using multiple service providers where they didn't before - hence service providers have to respond to shifting preferences for how IT is delivered if the current trend is set to continue."

Earlier this month, Everest Group published research suggesting that an increasingly strategic view is being taken towards infrastructure outsourcing, with remote infrastructure management outsourcing, cloud-based services and offshoring becoming major trends.
