New UK procurement research centre established in Cranfield

11 May 2011

A new research centre for the procurement and supply management sector has been set up in Cranfield with the intent of improving standards across the UK.

The new Centre for Strategic Procurement and Supply Management has been established by Cranfield School of Management and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply and is set for launch on June 16th 2011.

It will provide links between businesses and academia and deliver high-quality research-led development, thus helping to improve leadership standards in procurement across industries.

Among the initiatives being launched at the centre is the Executive Procurement Network, which provides organisations with an opportunity to access research, expertise and peer communication.

Alan Smart, director of the new centre, said: "With public, private and voluntary sectors all facing challenging targets and with limited funds over the next few years, we see procurement and supply strategy as a key area for review and development."

Earlier this year, Raj Tulsiani of the Interim Management Association told Recruiter that he believes the government can make procurement easier for small businesses by reforming current public sector buying processes.
