New public sector procurement software system launched

22 February 2012

The Cabinet Office has announced the launch of a new online app store for its G-Cloud framework for cloud-based ICT service procurement.

Dubbed CloudStore, the new service is designed to allow public sector organisations to procure the services they need quickly and affordably by giving them access to off-the-shelf IT services on a pay-as-you-go basis.

It will encompass key functions such as email, word processing, system hosting, enterprise resource planning and electronic records management, thus helping to avoid duplicated purchasing of services that cannot be shared.

Service details and pricing information are open to all on CloudStore, making it easier for buyers to compare services and make informed selections, while also enhancing transparency and competition.

Francis Maude, minister for the Cabinet Office, said: "Simply stated, purchasing services from CloudStore will be quicker, easier, cheaper and more transparent for the public sector and suppliers alike."

This comes after the Cabinet Office predicted that £5 billion in public sector savings will be delivered this year, thanks to efforts to improve efficiency.
