MBA student plans interim career
A woman nearing the end of her MBA programme at University College Dublin's (UCD's) Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School has revealed how she is already planning a career in interim management.
Mary O'Brien left a well-paid job as an accountant to pursue the business qualification, which she hopes will "open doors" for her in other sectors, the Irish Times reports.
She told the newspaper that current market conditions led her to consider an interim role, as a growing number of Irish firms are looking to make temporary appointments.
"I have been examining alternative career options in detail with my careers manager here in Smurfit and I have identified an area, interim management, which appeals to me," Ms O'Brien explained.
The publication noted that interim assignments have grown significantly in Ireland since the recession, with many companies still reluctant to hire executives on a permanent basis.
Located at the university's Blackrock campus, the UCD business school became the first European institution to offer MBA courses in 1964.
