Managers 'must provide staff with regular progress updates'

Managers have been reminded of the need to provide their staff with regular updates on how they are progressing.

Ruth Sanderson, managing director of management consultancy service bluepeapod.com, stated that staying connected with the workforce is essential in maintaining motivation.

Holding regular progress review meetings will allow bosses to quickly evaluate whether staff are becoming disillusioned or demotivated, or if they are drifting off target on projects.

Such meetings can also give high-performing workers the chance to be proactive about future strategy, offering insight into what challenges and potential opportunities they foresee.

"These meetings may seem like a luxury, but the quality of your relationship with staff is crucial," Ms Sanderson said.

According to a recent report from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, employee engagement is becoming an increasingly major priority for UK businesses, due to workers' fears over job security.
