Life sciences' executive search campaigns continue
Executive search campaigns in the life sciences industry have remained stable despite the global pressures facing employment.
That is according to the Association of Executive Search Consultants (AESC), which surveyed its 70 members and discovered that pharmaceutical, hospitals and health systems are still recruiting executive-level staff at the same rate as in 2008.
This maintained activity in search campaigns is also likely to be reflected in interim executive recruitment in these sectors, which are less susceptible to economic downturns than traditionally business-minded organisations.
In addition, the poll discovered that a number of respondents believed that this recruitment stability has been aided by an increase in mergers and acquisitions, which could also have led to a rise in transitional directors.
Peter Felix, president of the AESC, suggested that executive talent is critical to life sciences companies.
He said: "Healthcare tends to be somewhat recession proof and while some of the big pharmaceuticals companies have been affected by the downturn, they are still offering a good amount of mobility to sales and other executives."
