Interim roles 'can lead to freelance consultancy'
A freelance consultant has revealed how she unexpectedly discovered her current role after working as an interim manager.
Writing in the Guardian, Emma Insley said she required a "flexible career that fulfilled me" after becoming a mother for the first time.
She did not set out with the intention of offering consultancy services on a freelance basis, but soon found herself heading in a new direction with the help of an interim assignment.
"An organisation I previously worked with asked if I could do some interim management work for them and before I knew it I had become a consultant," Ms Insley explained.
She advised people planning a similar move to establish good contacts in their chosen industry, as well as promoting their services while they are busy to avoid being out of work at a later date.
Executive job coach Meg Guiseppi told Director magazine earlier this year that interim managers must make sure they look after their personal "brand" when between assignments.
