Interim opportunities 'growing in India'
Emerging economies such as India could contain opportunities for experienced interim managers from western countries, according to a report.
The Times of India states that the number of interim placements is growing in the country as more organisations catch on to the benefits of appointing specialist executives on a short-term basis.
According to the newspaper, the growth in interim assignments for executives represents a "fairly recent phenomenon" in India, where temporary staffing has previously been confined to junior positions.
It notes that interim hiring is particularly prevalent in cases of multinational companies setting up an Indian operation, suggesting executives with experience in western nations could find a new challenge in the country.
Varda Pendse, director of HR consultancy Cerebrus, added that a lack of available talent is another reason for Indian firms to use interim appointments.
"Companies are looking at different employment options and one of them is this, until they find the right person for the job," she explained.
According to a report from PricewaterhouseCoopers, the number of people working outside their home country has increased by 25 per cent in the last ten years.
