Interim market 'is an indicator of economic health'

13 May 2009

The interim management sector could be a relatively strong performer in the flagging job market in the UK, experts have suggested.

According to the Recruitment Society, interim positions are currently acting as an indicator of the wider health of the British employment market.

This, it said, is because this would be one of the first areas to experience an upturn if the UK economy picks up.

Steve Huxham, chairman of the organisation, commented: "The real benchmark is probably going to be the interim market."

The remarks came in the week in which a number of major firms opted to recruit people into interim management roles.

Former Sky Digital Media sales director Paul Wright was this week confirmed as Bauer Media's new interim digital director.

Meanwhile, consumer goods manufacturer Sara Lee Corporation has appointed senior president of finance Mark Garvey as interim chief financial officer.
