Interim executives 'required' in media sector

23 September 2009

Interim management specialists can provide media companies with the structure and tools to assist the transition to new ways of working.

That is according to the change management expert Nathalie Harrison, who has highlighted the media industry as a sector currently experiencing a transitional period due to technological advances and the creation of new burgeoning markets.

Writing for Reuters, the business consultant also identified new outsourcing models, the fragmentation of audiences and the consolidation of content providers as further illustrations of the changing media landscape.

Offering advice to executives considering occupying interim positions at companies working in this sector, Ms Harrison recommended that change processes be "consultative" and involve the participation of communities affected by the decisions.

The senior consultant at Sony Professional in Europe also identified the different ways of working that interim executives will face when employed by media companies.

She wrote: "In media organisations maintaining a culture of creativity and innovation is critical to successful change; characteristics that can be threatened by increased processes."

The international media industry is currently facing the challenges of implementing 3D film, mobile television and digital television into consumer markets.
