Interim executives 'in demand' in Birmingham

18 March 2010

Demand for interim executives is currently high in Birmingham, according to a report from Personnel Today.

In an analysis of recent HR trends in the West Midlands city, the publication stated that the region's public sector employers have shown a particular interest in interim assignments.

With large organisations such as the NHS continuing to recruit staff against a backdrop of economic uncertainty and anticipated spending cuts, the flexibility offered by interims has become attractive.

"Some organisations are reluctant to commit to long-term hires due to the lack of certainty in the market," the report explained.

Personnel Today also revealed that many of Birmingham's private firms are currently recruiting for senior talent management roles, suggesting businesses in the city are looking to prepare for economic recovery by retaining their best talent.

Commenting on the city's advantages as a business hub, the news provider noted its central location and large number of conference venues.

The government recently announced that the first phase of its £30 billion high-speed rail plan, due for completion in 2026, will cut journey times between London and Birmingham to 45 minutes.
