Interim executives 'driving overseas business'
UK companies are using interim executives to drive their business overseas, with an increasing number of staff in roles of this kind completing tasks for their employer in foreign countries.
Some 35 per cent of interim workers carried out an assignment abroad in the last 12 months, according to a survey from management solutions firm Alium Partners.
Chief executive officer Mike Hollin told HR Magazine that the number of foreign placements appears to be increasing for interim executives.
"It is also interesting to see an increasing number of interims reporting that they are replacing management consultants," he added, suggesting that this means their expertise and abilities are being recognised more clearly.
This is emphasised by the fact that many internal assignments given to interim executives were "crisis-driven", placing them in a situation where they had to improve performance or support a transformation.
According to the Interim Management Association, the private sector has seen increased growth in the number of interim workers over the last three months.
