Interim executive skills highlighted

19 June 2009

Interim IT executives must have six competencies to turnaround organisations successfully, according to an industry specialist.

Simon Berry, director of Interim Assignment, has suggested that successful transitional executives must be quick working, continuously improving, action-orientated, deadline-focused, results-driven and adaptable to change.

Highlighting the growing need for short-term IT leaders with experience of managing in difficult trading conditions, Mr Berry claimed that interim positions are becoming more frequent in the industry, Computing reported.

Offering advice to board members considering entering shot-term employment contracts, the director claimed that business experience in the relevant sector is crucial.

He told the website: "You must have credibility and a history of good results in addressing the challenges the client faces. And, importantly, you need to be able to adapt to the working environment.

Earlier this month, the Times newspaper claimed that companies are continuing to hire interim executives during the economic downturn as they can not commit to long-term contracts.
