Interim chief executive to take over at Hounslow council

27 April 2010

Michael Frater is set to be unveiled as the new interim chief executive of Hounslow London Borough Council.

He will replace former incumbent Mark Gilks and take responsibility for running the local authority until a permanent successor is found, the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) reports.

The experienced local government troubleshooter will also assist with the search for Mr Gilks' replacement.

Mr Frater was awarded a CBE for services to local government in 2004 and has a number of high-profile public sector roles on his CV, including a stint as interim chief executive of Surrey County Council in 2009.

He started his local government career at Redbridge London Borough Council, where he became chief executive in 1993.

According to the LGC, a Hounslow spokesperson has confirmed Mr Frater's appointment, although it is yet to be rubber-stamped by members.

Mr Gilks is due to leave the authority next month after nine years as chief executive.
