Interim chief appointed by Staffs council

16 September 2010

Mark Hill has been appointed interim chief executive at Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council.

Members of the council voted in favour of Mr Hill taking the temporary position on Wednesday (September 15th), with current chief Mark Barrow set to depart next week.

Mr Barrow will leave the Staffordshire authority on September 24th to become strategic director of development at Birmingham City Council.

Council leader Simon Tagg described Mr Hill as "a very experienced and capable officer".

The new interim chief was previously interim executive director for resources and support services at the council between August 2006 and November 2007.

Mr Tagg said the temporary leader's role will be to "maintain senior management capacity and continue to assist councillors in driving the borough council forward" until a permanent appointment is made.

Last month, Derby City Council announced plans to appoint an interim manager following the suspension of the authority's strategic director of children and young people.
