High leadership quality 'essential for business development'

14 June 2011

A new survey has highlighted the crucial link between management quality and better leadership in business.

Research conducted by global talent management consultancy DDI has revealed that only 36 per cent of companies in the UK currently rate their leadership quality as high.

Of those with a good impression of their overall management standards, 66 per cent professed to be confident of future business success, in contrast to only four per cent that rated their leadership quality as low.

When asked about what qualities they believe will be essential for growth in the coming years, respondents identified traits such as change management aptitude, ability to coach others and proficiency in nurturing talent and innovation.

Steve Newhall, managing director at DDI UK, said: "Organisations have bought into the fact that they need to develop leaders and it's indisputable that leadership does matter."

Earlier this week, Gill Graves of Iridium HRD Consulting underlined the importance of proper communication as a skill for business leaders wishing to engage their workforce.
