Government launches new procurement guide

29 January 2013

A new set of guidelines and tools to support public and private sector infrastructure providers has been sent to consultation by the government as it attempts to create an environment in which major projects can be delivered effectively to help build up the UK's economy.

The launch of the toolkit forms part of the ongoing Cost Review programme, which hopes to make efficiency savings of at least 15 per cent by 2015.

Commercial secretary to the treasury Lord Deighton welcomed the launch of the roadmap and expressed his hope that it will ensure programmes are delivered efficiently and without excessive waste.

Constructing Excellence chief executive Don Ward added: "We are particularly pleased to be working with the government and other industry partners to establish a legacy."

Speaking in front of the House of Commons Public Administration Committee, managing director of consultancy Marc1 and author of a 2012 review into public procurement Colin Cram recently claimed EU procurement guidelines should not be used to excuse mistakes made by UK service providers.
